Included visits /activities

You start your birding at Gefersa reservoire ,then continue to Chelekleka wet land,making road side birding to Awash National park;Full day birding in the park ,Koka Dam, Zeway Lake, langano , Lake Awassa;Abjata –shalla Lakes National park for lesser and greater flamingoes ,road side to Wendogenet for wood land birds. Then you will have a full day birding at Wendogenet ( Forest birds), and another full day at Lake Awassa .


Ethiopia is one of the richest in Bird life representing 9.5 % of the world’s and 39% of Africa’s birds.For a very great number of Falmingoes it is also possible to drive to Chitoo from Awassa. Another additional day allows the visitor to enjoy the tropical rain forest birds of Bishangari (Probably the only forest left in the main Ethiopian Rift system)


Day 01

Arrive in Addis Ababa meet our representatives, and transfer to hotel.

Day 02

Menagesha forest was planted by Emperor Zara Yaqob and reserved as crown land in the old system. Klipspringer bird, colobus monkey and bushbuck and duiker animals are found there. Gefersa Reservoir supplies water to Addis Ababa city. It is home to pelicans, cormorants, and Egyptian geese.

Day 03

Drive out of Awash National Park. On the way birding at Cheleklaka wet land near Debre Zeit and Lake Beska. Birding includes Tufted Duck, White backed Duck, Red billed Teal, Wood sand piper, Marsh Harrier, Lesser spotted and steepie Eagles, Laughing and Red eyed Doves, Chestnut backed Sparrow Larks, Red throated pipit, common and crowned cranes, Isabelline Wheatear, Knob billed Duck, Ferruginous Duck, Masked Weavers, Avocet, Red tailed Shrike, Glossy Ibis and others.

Day 04

Birding in Awash National Park more than 380 birds’ species are found here. Birding in the thorny bushes of the park and the reverie forest by the Awash river falls include Chestnut bellied and Liechtenstein's sand Grouses, Three banded courser, Orange bellied parrot, steel blue and straw tailed whydah, Rosy patched shrike, Great gray Shrike, kori Bustard, Buff create and Hartlaub's Bustards, Green winged Pytilia, yellow billed Hornbill, Gray wren Warbler, White faced Scoops Owl, pearl spotted Owlet, Ruppel's and black headed weavers, swallow tailed kite,Bateluer eagle, Lappet faced and Egyptian vultures, Shikra, Gabar goshawk, Red winged bush lark, Ashy cistcola, Pygmy sunbird, Gray headed Batis, Somali fiscal and wood peckers. In addition to the birds, you will have chance to spot mammals such as Beisa Oryx, Sommering’s Gazelle, Salt’s Dik Dik, Warthog, Black backed Jackal, Hamadriyas Baboon, Greater and Lesser Kudus.

Day 05

Drive along the rift valley to Zeway for water birds. On the way before lunch, we will have one stop at Koka Dam near Awash River Bridge which offers good variety of water and woodland birds. Then Lake Ziway provides Lesser Jacana, Lesser moorhen, African pygmy Goose, Black Heron, Crowned crane, Gray headed and Lesser baked Gull, Common snipe, Glossy and Hadada Ibis, Little and Tem Mick's Stints, Red throated Pipit, Pink backed and Great white pelicans. In addition to this, the woodland provides birds like Masked Shrike, Carmine Bee eaters, Wattled and superb starlings, Black headed bats, African Thrush, Beautiful and Marques sunbirds, Nubian and bearded wood peckers, African Harrier hawk, Verreaux's Eagle Owl, Slender tailed Night jar, Dederic and Klaas's Cuckoos, Black billed wood Hoopoe etc. Then drive to Wondogenet.

Day 06

You spend a full day birding while making a stroll around the lush forests of Wendogenet and the surrounding green hills with their natural thermal springs. The resort ground itself is home of the beautiful Black and white Abyssinian Colobus Monkey and other monkeys with abundant bird life. Target Birds include endemic birds of Yellow fronted parrot, Abyssinian woodpecker, Banded Barbet, and more non-endemics such as Double toothed Barbet, Yellow fronted Tinker bird, Half collared Kingfisher, Narina's Trogon, White checked Turaco, Red shouldered and Emerald Cuckoo, Lesser striped Swallow, Black sawing, Bronze Manikin, Yellow bellied Waxbill, Scaly Francolin, Abyssinian ground Thrush, Spectacled and Grosbeak weavers, Lemon and Tambourine doves, Olive pigeon, Silvery Checked Hornbill, Steppie buzzard, Crowned eagle, Ayer's hawk Eagle, Fantailed and Thick billed Ravens, African Little sparrow hawk, Crested Eagle, African Harrier Hawk, Sharp's Starling, Broad billed Roller, Blue headed coucal, Scaly and Lesser Honey Guides, Mountain Wagtail, Blue spotted Wood dove, Abyssinian Hill Babbler, Grey Cuckoo Shrikes etc.

Day 07

Drive from Addis Ababa to ArbaMinch. En-route you visit Tiya (World Heritage Site by UNSECO). This site is famous for its ancient monolithic stele which is engraved with some fascinating symbols.

Day 08

Boat trip on Lake Chamo; where you have the opportunity to see the great Nile crocodiles and Hippos. I the afternoon, you will have birding to Netchsar National park then back to ArbaMinch.

Day 09

Birding by the shore of Lake Hwassa, This includes Huegline's Robin Chat, Willow and Lesser swamp Warblers; Red breasted Wryneck, Woodland and grey Kingfisher etc.

Overnight- Oasis Hotel/Similar Hotel

Day 10

Early in the morning, birding at Hwassa Fish Market and the surrounding woodland. This includes African Thrush, Senegal Thicknee, Green shank, Black headed Batis, Little and Spectacled Weavers, Red Shouldered Cuckoo Shrike, Beautiful sunbirds etc.

Then, you drive back to Addis Ababa via Abijata-Shalla National Park and acacia woodland of Langano. where birds includes Barefaced Go away bird, Helmet Shrikes, Fawn colored Lark, Rattling and Boran Cisticolas, Von der Decken’s Hornbill, Rufous crowned Roller, Brubru and Black billed wood hoopoes, Blue napped mouse birds, Banded Barbet, Red headed weaver, Rattling Cistcola, Yellow rumped Serine, Black checked Waxbill, Little Rock Thrush, Greater and Lesser Honey guides, Shallow's Wheatear, Fawn colored Lark, Spotted eagle owl, Marico Sunbird etc. Finally, you drive back Addis you and invited to a farewell dinner at one of the cultural restaurant of Addis. Transfer to air port to your departure flight.
