On the first day, you arrive and meet our representative to drive across the rift valley to Arbaminch. Enroute you visit Dorze people famous for their beehive shaped bamboo house. On the following day, game drive in Nech Sar national park and in that afternoon you have boat trip on Lake Chamo to See herds of hippo. Then, head to Turmi by visiting Konso known for their terracing system and Erbore people. On Monday; you have another excursion to visit the Karo people Known for their body painting. Up on your return, you visit the Turmi market where you meet the Hammer and Benna people together. On Tuesday, after touring Omorate proceed to Jinka by making a short sop over at Dimeka women’s market where you have access to see different tribes of the surroundings area in one spot. On the next day, you drive across the heart of Mago National Park to visit the Mursi tribe whose women have a distinctive culture of inserting geometrical lip plates in the slits of their lower lips. On that afternoon, you visit the fertile village of the Ari people. Drive via Tsemay and Konso to Yabello; tour the Elsod crater and Borena singing well at Dub lock and Enroute you will get a chance to experience the omo tribe’s market for the last time at Key Afer. On Saturday, drive via land of Coffee (Sidama) to the Lake city of Awassa, in getting there set out for boat trip on one of the rift valley Lakes. Proceed to Dinsho (headquarter of Bale Mountains national park) to see various fauna and the great Senetti plateau and Harrena escarpment. On Tuesday morning, you drive out of Goba to Langano where you will be able to see the twin Lakes; Abijata and Shalla which form part of Abijata-Shalla National Park. On the following day, visit Awash national park for its river fall and gorge. Then, head further east from Awash to Harar town known for its old wall, typical Harari house and Hyena men performance. On Friday, visit the city’s market before driving back to Awash. Drive from Awash to Addis Ababa and in getting Addis Ababa, you will have city tour of the capital of Ethiopia. Begin the trip to northern part of the country with a drive to Bahirdar with a short stop over at Debre Libanos monastery built in the 13th century.  While you are in Bahirdar, you will be able to see the different monasteries of Lake Tana and have excursion drive to Blue Nile Fall. On Tuesday morning, drive some 180kms to the town of Gondar; here city tour includes exploring the royal enclosure and the superb ceiling and wall painting in Debre Berhane Selassie church. The other tourist site in Gondar is Semien mountain national park; home to both the endemic Fauna (Gelada Baboon, Walia ibex and Red fox) and flora (Gaint Lobelia and Abyssinian wild rose). Proceed to the archaeological town Axum via one of the most scenic road called Lima Limo. In Axum visit the stele park and and St.Mary of Zion church that is believed to house the original Ark of the Covenant. On next day, drive to the northern base to visit Danakil depression; Mekelle. Along the way visit some of the Tigray rock churches and Yeha temple as well. For the next three days you explore Dallol depression and Mount Ert Ale and then on the fourth day you drive all the way back to Mekelle.  You will drive from Mekelle to reach at the final destination of historic route; Lalibela by visiting Yemrehana Kirstos Church which is older than the Lalibela churches. In Lalibela you get to visit the rock hewn churches of Lalibela with their colorful celebration of Charismas eve and the main holiday

 



 
Itinerary

Day1) Friday December 09, 2011 

In the morning, arrive in Addis Ababa and then drive across the rift valley to Arba Minch. Enroute with a little detour from the main road, you will visit the highland people of Dorze. Here, you visit their excellent beehive shaped bamboo houses, fertile grounds of false banana and colorful waving products.

Day 2) Saturday December 10, 2011

Early morning game drive in Netch Sar National Park to visit the endemic Swaynes heart beest, Kudu, Antelopes, Zebras, and the view of Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo. Situated between two of Ethiopia’s Rift Valley Lakes, this park is one of the most scenic national parks in Africa. In the afternoon, you will have boat trip on Lake Chamo to visit some herds of hippo, aquatic birdlife, and huge sunbathing crocodiles on its shore.

Day 3) Sunday December 11, 2011

Drive from Arbaminch by visiting Konso terraced hills, the Konso's chief compound and his chiefly artifacts at Karat Konso to Turmi. The Konso people are famous for their traditional terracing system and Waka Totem (Grave Wooden Totem). En-route you visit the beautiful people of Erbore in their village.

Day 4) Monday December 12, 2011

Excursion drives to Murule; visit the Karo village. These people are very small in number and live at the bank of Omo River. During special ceremonies the Karo adore painting themselves in the imitation of the plumage of the guinea fowl. Today is Monday Market at Turmi. Therefore, you will have an opportunity to visit the Hammar people and their local products in their colorful market.

Day 5) Tuesday December 13, 2011

Excursion drives to Omorate; visit the Dassanatch people at the bank of the Omo River. In the afternoon, proceed from Turmi via Dimeka and Key Afar to Jinka. At Dimeka visit Women market for the Hammer, Benna, and sometimes Tsemay people.

Day 6) Wednesday December 14, 2011

Excursion drive to the fascinating Mursi people whose women adore wearing geometrical lip plates in the slits of their lower lips. The drive to the village of these people takes you in the heart of Mago National Park. In the afternoon visit the Ari villages, their neat compounds, and fertile surroundings.

Day 7) Thursday December 15,2011

Drive down via the Tsemay land and gazing over the terraced hills of the Konso to Yabello. The area after the Konso land is inhabited by the Borena Oromo. En-route at Key Afar, you visit the colorful Thursday Market of the Benna and the Ari people with their local agricultural products.

Day 8) Friday December 16, 2011

From Yabello, visit Elsod crater where down the crater Borena men extract salt for their cattle and also the Borena singing wells at Dublock.

Day 9) Saturday December 17, 2011

Drive across the beautiful coffee land of the Sidama people to Awassa. On the way at around Wenago, you visit the Tutu Fella Stones Site. In getting there, you will have boat trip on Lake Awassa; one of the rift valley lakes in Ethiopia.

Day 10) Sunday December 18, 2011

Drive from Awassa to Dinsho (The headquarters of Bale Mountains National Park). Walk around the headquarters to visit mammals such as the magnificent Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, Bohor reedbucks, Warthogs and different birds. Then, proceed to Goba.

Day 11) Monday December 19, 2011

Excursion along the highest all weather road of Africa to the largest moorland tract in Africa called Senetti plateau where you can visit the endemic Ethiopian Wolf and its special pray _ the Gaint mole rats. Until recently, there was controversy between experts on the naming of this beautiful wild animal. Now, it is confirmed that this rare animal is neither a Semien fox nor a jackal but a Wolf.  In addition to Senetti Plateau you see the Harrena escarpment.

Day 12) Tuesday December 20, 2011

Early in the morning drive from Goba to Lake Langano by visiting Abijiata-Shalla National Park. Langano and Shalla are the only two lakes in the country considered safe (bilharzia free) for swimming; if you would like to swim. Despite its brown color, the water in Langano is clean and pleasant.

Day 13) Wednesday December 21, 2011

Then, proceed across the rift valley to Awash; drive to Awash National Park to visit Awash River gorge and Awash River Falls. The thorny bushes of Awash National Park supports not only beautiful birds but also some mammals such as Beisa Oryx, Sommering’s Gazelle, Salt’s Dik Dik, Warthog, Black backed Jackal, Hamadriyas Baboon, Greater and Lesser Kudus.

Day 14) Thursday December 22, 2011

Drive to the Walled City of Harar. In the afternoon, you will visit the old wall. This 5m-high wall was erected by Nur Ibn al-Wazir Mujahid and in addition to the wall and its gates; you visit a typical Harari house. In the evening, you attend the hyena-man performance.

Day 15) Friday December 23, 2011

In the morning, you visit the market of Harar city and then, drive to Awash.

Drive back to Addis Ababa. Then after a little bit of rest go sightseeing tour of Addis Ababa which includes the Ethnological Museum in the former palace of King Hailesillassie, the National Museum, the superb Holy Trinity Cathedral and Merkato_the largest open-air market in Africa.

Day17) Sunday December 25, 2011

Drive to visit Debre Libanos Monastery (13th century) and the spectacular Blue Nile gorge. Then, proceed along the rolling plateaus and farm lands of Gojam to Bahirdar.

Day18) Monday December 26, 2011

In the morning, boat trip on Lake Tana to see beautiful island monasteries and their valuable treasures which includes biblical wall paintings, crowns of different Ethiopian Kings, ancient illuminated parchment books, superb crosses etc. In the afternoon, you drive to the magnificent Blue Nile Falls. It is about 400 meter wide with full flood (in June, July and August to mid September).

Day19) Tuesday December 27,2011

Then, proceed to Gondar. On the way with a little detour from the main road you visit the village of the Awramba society (unique society in Ethiopia for their life style and custom) and their colorful woven products. In getting there, tour Gondar which includes the visit of the Royal Enclosure with its magnificent castles dated from the 17th and 18th century (world heritage site), the bath of king Fasiledes, and the remarkable church of Debrebrihan Selassie with its breathtaking 17th century wall and ceiling paintings

Day20) Wednesday December 28, 2011

Morning drive to the Simien mountain national park as far as Chenek (World Heritage Site) to visit its superb scenery, the endemic fauna like the Gelada baboon(the bleeding heart baboon) and flora such as the Abyssinian wild rose and the Giant Lobelia.

Drive via one of the most scenic roads of Ethiopia called Lima limo and the spectacular Tekeze Gorge to Axum. En route on your right side of the road, you will have a chance to gaze over parts of the Semien Mountains.

Day22) Friday December 30, 2011

In Axum(World Heritage Site),visit the famous stele park with its ancient huge monolithic obelisks, ruined palaces of different Axumite kings including that of the Queen of Sheba, ancient trilingual stone inscriptions, subterranean tombs, the church of St. Mary of Zion where the original Ark of the Covenant is believed to be housed etc.

Drive to Mekelle visiting some selected Tigray rock churches (based on their architectural and painting qualities) such as Wukro Kirkos, Abreha Wo Atsebeha and the ruins of the Temple of Yeha (5th.CBC).

Day24) Sunday January 01, 2012

Drive from Mekelle via Agula and Berhaile to Hamad Ela. At Berhaile you produce the permission; organize the scouts finalize preparation for the desert tour e.t.c.

Day25) Monday January 02, 2012

In the morning drive to Dallol depression, one of the lowest points on the earth which dips to -116 meters. Visit amazing rock formations and bubbling sulfur springs. Also, you visit the salt mines at Lake Asale, where salt bars are cut and prepared for camel transportation and then, return to Hamad Ela.

Day 26) Tuesday January 03, 2012

Drive to the typical Afar village of Dodom, from which we trek to the volcano. Prepare for trekking and in the evening you will trek to the rim of the volcano. During the night, you visit the drama of the active volcano of mount Ert Ale, in whose crater lays the only permanent lava lake in the world, and another volcano of bubbling lava.

In the morning, trek back and meet the vehicle to drive to Hamad Ela, a far flung settlement in a nomadic tribal area. Then continue to drive from Hamad Ela via Berhaile, Desa escarpment with juniper and wild olive trees to Mekelle.

Day28) Thursday January 05, 2012

After early breakfast leave for Lalibela passing through the stunning scenery of the North central Massif and the Tigrean plateau arriving Lalibela late afternoon. Just before entering to Lalibela, visit the magnificent built-up cave church of King Yemrehana Kirstos. This atmospheric church is even older than that of King Lalibela’s Rock-hewn churches.

Day29) Friday January06, 2012

Today you visit the first group of King Lalibela’s 12th.C Rock hewn churches (World Heritage Site). Although all of these churches are carved out of huge blocks of rocks, each of them displays unique architectural features from the other. During the night Christmas Eve celebration continues in the churches in the presence of many white-robed worshipers. If you are keen at the expense of your bed time, you may participate in one of the churches' celebration and leave whenever you feel tired.

Day30) Saturday January 07, 2012

Today is the main day for the celebration of the Ethiopian Christmas. Therefore, you have the chance to attend the colorful celebration, which takes place in and around the compound of Virgin Mary's church_the most beloved church of King Lalibela. Here, there will be breathtaking chant and dance of a multitude of Lalibela priests. In the afternoon, you will visit the second group of King Lalibela's rock hewn churches (World Heritage Site).

Day31) Sunday January08, 2012

Finalize your tour and get transferred to the airport to fly back to Addis Ababa. In the afternoon you will if you like go shopping tour in Addis Ababa. In the evening you will be invited fare well dinner in one of the best traditional restaurants of the capital. Finally, after dinner transfer to the airport for your flight back to Austria.
